Director of Student Diversity and Academic Support Programs
Sunnie E. Hughes is the Director of Student Diversity Programs. Before joining the Enrollment Management team, she served as a Resident Director, for Residential Life in Student Affairs. As the Director, Ms. Hughes was responsible for the successful provision of programs and day-to-day operations/services in the Quadrangle and Residential College campus living communities.
Prior to joining Missouri S&T, Ms. Hughes served as Program coordinator-Multicultural Affairs at Truman State University in Kirksville, MO. In this role, she was responsible for creating and supporting a campus environment that celebrates diversity through the nurturing of Latino, African American, Native American and Asian American students.
Ms. Hughes is an active member of the Missouri Association of Blacks in Higher Education (MABHE), where she serves as the current secretary and chairman of the scholarship committee. Her present goals for the department includes reevaluating and expanding the department's marketing tools to potential students, creating more recognition programs for students committed to the department's mission, reassessing and developing programs focused on academic and personal success of students, along with developing a new student sponsorship program.
In the community, Ms. Hughes is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and also a member of the Knights and Ladies of St. Peter Claver (KPC), Tekiwthitha Court in St. Louis. In her free time, she likes to read, complete craft projects, spend time with family and volunteer her time to area community outreach groups/services. "I believe in encouraging all students to celebrate differences and spread appreciation of diversity campus-wide, while valuing being a part of our shared campus community."
Ms. Hughes holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special and Elementary Education from Fontbonne University, as well as a Masters of Arts Degree in Higher Education Administration from St. Louis University, both located in St. Louis, MO.

Administrative Assistant
Melissa Chambers is the Administrative Assistant for the Student Diversity and
Academic Support Programs. She has been at Missouri S&T for 5 years.
Melissa assists in the coordination of program activities for both SDP and MEP.
She also maintains department accounts, files and scholarships. Students will
find an open door for help with anything they need at Melissa's desk.
